Quilt Challenge 2015

This year’s Guild challenge “Lunch on Us” is all about the Meals on Wheels community and your creative spirit. Currently, Meals on Wheels serves about 500 homebound people. For some, that one mid day meal delivered by a volunteer is the only human contact they have all day. The 2015-16 Guild Challenge will be to provide each of these 500 people with a quilted placemat and fabric napkin. That’s one or more from each Guild member (350 members). This is a good way to use up the odd pieces of fabric and batting from your stash. Fabric will also be available at monthly meetings.

Stick to bright cheerful colors. Light colors may show stains readily.placemat1

Choose your own design. Using the Quilt as You Go technique is a fun and fast way to produce your placemat(s).

A completed placemat and napkins will be displayed at each monthly meeting, along with samples for you to look at.

Approximate finished sizes are:

  • Placemat – 13’ X 18”
  • Napkin – 18” X 18”

Meals on Wheels has been serving Buncombe County for over 40 years providing hot nutritious meals and helpful services to the elderly homebound so that they can continue to live independently in their own homes among familiar surroundings and maintain their dignity while aging.
