Are You a New Member of the

Asheville Quilt Guild?

All new members who have joined since January 1, 2026, are invited to join us for a Meet & Greet Gathering.

There will be GALs (Guild Ambassador Liaisons) to welcome you, provide valuable guild information, light snacks, games and new PALs (Partners in Action and Learning).

Our goal is to meet you, introduce you to new friends and assist you to find your niche within our Guild. Please register early.

Sit and Sew for Charity

Bags of Love Sewing Day

This sewing day is a collaboration of the Asheville Quilt Guild and the Carolina Mountain Longarm Association. During this sewing event participants will create bags or quilt tops for Bags of Love, a non-profit organization seeking to meet the immediate needs of children who are abruptly removed from their homes due to parental abuse, neglect, homelessness or other home insecurities.

This is an opportunity for you to go through your stash, find a simple quilt pattern, bring your sewing supplies and come enjoy a day of sewing with other quilters. If you choose to make a quilt top, a twin size is preferrable, but anything from crib to twin would be welcome. You can choose to finish the entire quilt or just the top and pass it on for others to finish.

If you want to make a bag, instructions and fabric requirements will be provided below.

Each bag made is filled with donated items by the local chapter of Bags of Love working out of Arden Church Seventh-Day Adventist. The local chapter coordinates with Social Services in Buncombe, Henderson, Polk, Rutherford and Transylvania Counties and other agencies to distribute the filled bags.

Instructions for Making a Bag

Supplies needed:

30" x WOF (Width of Fabric), piece for the bag

16" x 13" (+/-) for pocket

6" x 13" for flap, needs to be at least as wide as the pocket

1 badge, will be provided

2 1/4" (+/-) piece of velcro

5' at least of macrame rope (will be provided)

1. Cut bag - 30" x WOF - leave salvages on

2. Cut pocket - 16" x 13" (+/-); cut pocket flap - 6" x 13" (+/-)

3. Press 1/4" down one long side of bag fabric. Fold down again by 1", press and sew to create a casing.

4. Press 1/4" down all 4 sides of the pocket fabric, then press top end down by 1 1/2", sew down the top pocket hem. Place soft velcro in the middle of pocket hem and sew down. Place the pocket piece on the center of the right half side of the bag fabric about 3-4 inches down from the top of the bag.

5. Make flap - press down 1/4" on both long sides. Fold flap in half long way - right sides together. Sew ends 1/4" seam - open flap and press. Place rough velcro in the middle of the flap matching the position of the pocket velcro - sew in place. Place folded edge of flap even with top of pocket - sew down. Fold flap down and sew across.

6. To make bag - turn right sides together, selvages together, previously sewn hem on top. Sew arount the long side and bottom, clip corners. Zig-zag, if necessary to prevent fraying. Turn right side out. Thread rope into hem - tie knot on each end.

Three lunch choices:

Chicken Mediterranean

Vegetable Lasagna

All lunches will be served with McConnell House Salad, Herb Roasted

Potatoes, Lemon Roasted Broccoli, Rolls and Butter, Coffee and Tea

All registrations due by November 15, 2026.
