Learn award-winning quiltmaker and nationally certified quilt judge Kathryn Zimmerman’s methods for machine applique with the “turned and glued” method. Other techniques of fused raw-edge and double blanket stitch applique will also be demonstrated. Several quilts will be shown with these machine applique techniques.
Practice learning the process before applying to your pattern. The applique shapes will be machine stitched with a blind hem or zigzag stitch to your background fabric. Learn tips to keep your background fabric smooth and flat. Kathryn will work with each individual student to get the best applique stitch possible from your machine. Threads and tension will be discussed.
Your pattern will contain all the necessary shapes to learn techniques for shapes with points, curves and circles as well as bias stems. Kathryn will have a $5.00 class kit available for purchase with applique foundation material, stabilizers, pattern templates, the turning tool and freezer paper. Please bring cash or a check payable to the instructor.

In this live online workshop, Australian fiber artist Lisa Walton teaches an exciting new way to construct one-of-a-kind quilts. You will create a totally original, exciting and vibrant quilt using simple fusing techniques with hand dyed or batik fabrics. Learn to cut with no rulers and create your own original quilt. Learn how to fuse fabrics and create a complex looking design easily with no sewing. All fabric is fused together and then the quilting is what holds it together. During the two 3-hour sessions, you will complete a selection of blocks. The only sewing in this quilt is in the quilting, which will be done after the workshop and will further enhance your unique quilt
Skills learned include fusing, freehand fabric cutting, quilt design, and color theory.
Please note that this workshop will be presented in two sessions on two consecutive days from 3 pm to 6 pm. You will need to attend both sessions to complete the workshop. Our instructor lives in Australia, a very different time zone from our own!

Can you cut with a rotary cutter and a ruler? Can you sew a quarter-inch seam? That's all it takes to get started on these blocks! You'll get two classes for the price of one: "Backgammon for Quilters" and "X Marks the Spot." You can assemble your blocks into two finished quilts or combine them for one larger quilt as shown in the picture on the right.
Learn Ann's "No Sewing Until You Quilt It" technique to make the "Summer's End" quilt pictured above. You will use French Fuse as a foundation to "build" your quilt top appliqué style, using a glue stick to turn under the seam allowances and a sealing iron to fuse each piece down. Then, quilt and stitch your piece at the same time.
There will be a $10 fee for the class kit, which includes the pattern and French Fuse. The fee is payable by cash or check to the instructor at the workshop.
