Please join us for a colorful and fun workshop led by Beth Helfter of Eva Paige Designs.  Using the HST cutting technhique which she will teach in this workshop, the Carpenter's Apprentice Quilt is a beautiful pattern which will brighten your home for years to come.

Please note, you are expected to have your cutting done prior to class.  The instructions for cutting and the materials list can be found in the link at the bottom of this page.  You will also have to purchase the pattern from Beth at the workshop or you can order it directly from her website.  Those instructions are also in the link below.

Please remember that we will be meeting in our new location in Ivy Bldg. on the AB Tech Campus.  Driving directions are on the Guild's website and computerized mapping will also bring you there.

We will have a 30 minute break for lunch, so please bring your own lunch and drinks.  We cannot offer coffee and water at this site but you may certainly bring your own.

Here is the link to the materials supply list and the cutting instructions.  Please have all your fabric prepared and cut prior to class.

NTNT FPP No Tear, No Tear Foundation Paper Piecing A different take on foundation paper piecing. (Formerly known as Foundation-less Piecing): Using freezer paper as your pattern to create accurate points and seams. - No more tearing off paper- Reusable patterns pieces,- Accuracy (worth mentioning again)! -Pressing in the direction you want - And even more advantages With my method of Foundation Paper Piecing (NTNT FPP) those perfect points, arcs and spires are conquered. And best of all, with this technique you won’t be sewing through the paper, so there is no fighting to tear off the paper in the end, and the pattern is reuseable. We’ll take a look at color options and how to use lots of color or just a little color. Then we’ll use the NTNT FPP technique to sew your block. From there we’ll explore the variations in the pattern and each quilt block will be an original. This is a great technique to add to your toolbox. Foundation Paper Piecing using my NTNT FPP method makes some seemingly impossible blocks possible and fun.

    Pattern Fee: $10.00

Please remember to bring your own drinks.  We will have a 30 minute break for lunch so please bring that too!

    Frolicking Felines

Begin the day learning Jinny Beyer's theory of color. Paula created an easy tessellated cat paper foundation pattern to showcase your new skills and understanding of value, shading, and color!

    Frolicking Felines
    Supply List

Beginning with Color Confidence for Quilters and the Portable Palette by Jinny Beyer, learn about the use of color and then transfer that knowledge into a whimsical tessellated paper foundation pieced quilt of interlocking kitty cats.

Portable Palette by Jinny Beyer - optional (palettes will be available for use in class)

    • Paper
    • Tracing paper
    • Colored pencils
    • Fabric: a multicolored piece from your stash
    • Basic sewing kit
    • Rotary cutter, ruler and mat
    • Pigma pen: Black, 0.01 micron

Fabric: Ah, the choices.... . This quilt block lends itself to at least four variations:

    1. Nine patch with two colors

    2. Simple shading from light to dark of six fabrics (it could be more, if you like) in one color family

    3. Simple shading from light to dark in alternating rows of two color families

    4. Complete color study as in the sample. The sample uses 6 x 6 pieces of 60 different fabrics (10 color families shaded light to dark).

You would need 1/8 yard of each fabric. There are two sizes of blocks to choose from (2 and 3 ) so not much fabric is needed. It depends on the size quilt you would like to make.

Bring extra fabric to play with.

    • Thread: 100% sewing cotton to match fabric values
    • Sewing machine in good working order, manual
    • Extension cord and power strip
    • Iron and ironing board
